Edition Of One.

Until we get our hands on a fresh batch of clay, it’s just a lump of mud.

It’s heavy, damp, and completely unformed. Yet, after hours of shaping, hand-painting, glazing, and double-firing, that very same earth turns into a vibrant vase, a characterful jug, or a unique treasure box that sits proudly on your shelf or desk.

At Kissed Frog Ceramics, this magic isn’t mass-produced—it’s lived every day in our coastal East Yorkshire studio.

Why "Edition of One" Matters in a Factory-Made World

We live in a world where thousands of identical coffee mugs roll off automated assembly lines every hour. They’re precise, predictable, and—if we're being honest—a bit lifeless.

Handmade pottery

works differently:

  • No Moulds, No Templates: Whether thrown on the wheel or handbuilt from slabs and coils, every shape takes on its own personality right from the start.

  • Freehand Painting: Our glazes and colored slips aren't stamped on. Every stroke of paint reacts to the brush and the heat of the kiln in a way that can never be exactly duplicated.

  • Imperfection as Integrity: A slight variation in curve or color tint isn't a defect—it’s the footprint of the maker.

When you own a Kissed Frog piece, you own the only one in existence.

The Journey Through the Fire

Creating studio pottery isn't a quick process. It's a dialogue between artist, clay, and heat:

  1. Shaping & Sculpting: Working stoneware clay while wet, letting the organic forms emerge naturally.

  2. The First Fire (Bisque): Drying the piece completely and firing it to transform fragile clay into porous ceramic.

  3. Painting & Glazing: Decorating with brushstrokes inspired by coastal wildlife, botanical shapes, and imaginative themes.

  4. The Second Fire: High-temperature stoneware firing where glazes melt, fuse, and lock in the final colors forever.

Bringing Character into Your Home

Functional art shouldn't be hidden away in a cabinet for "special occasions." Use the vase for wildflowers picked on a weekend walk, serve water from the jug at dinner, or hang a sculpted piece where the morning light catches it.

Every piece carries a story—from a quiet studio on the Yorkshire coast straight to your home.
